Tile Mate

I like Tile because it’s a magical tool, that is pretty much out of the way. It disappears and doesn’t interfere in my everyday life, but when I absolutely need it, it comes in handy. I like the phone to physical product connection. By introducing the tile, I don’t have to clutter my mind with managing my keys anymore and can focus on other things.

Beta Book Whiteboard

The Beta Book is a foldable and portable white board. It allows me to show off some of the whiteboarding skills I've learned at Maga. I've gotten so used to my whiteboard desk at Maga, that when I sit at a regular I want to write on it. It's like a placemat, so I can write anywhere now without damaging my furniture.

Mahabis Slippers

With my dogs I am always in and out of the house playing fetch running into chatty neighbors and then realizing that i have been tiptoeing around in my socks. These nifty shoes are no ordinary slippers, and effortlessly transform from an indoor to an outdoor accessory with their colorful detachable soles. I recommend this as a gift for anyone who loves well-designed purposeful products that make your everyday life just a little bit more comfortable and, of course, a little more colorful.

Kerf Wall

Kerf wall takes the idea of traditional wall storage systems and makes them simple and beautiful. The kerf wall is a sheet of high quality furniture plywood that mounts on simple steel track to turn any wall into a piece of functional art. Each hole in the kerf wall is a mounting location for any small to medium size piece of furniture you can imagine. With one motion and no tools you could mount or move a cabinet, bookshelf, coat hanger, phone stand, laptop desk. tv mount, bike rack, kitchen organizer even attach a full table, or a ladder. Past that most of the furniture that is used on the wall can be designed to be collapsable.

Creative Clash

Creative Clash is a great, lighthearted game from Central PA about the industry of design. Prepare to battle your friends for the top spot and get some laughs out of it. You might notice some familiar design faces in the deck too!

Go North Notebooks

Go North Notebooks and Micron Technical Pens are the perfect pen and notebook combo. I am always taking notes and drawing ideas out, so I appreciate ergonomics and quality in a notebook without sacrificing flexibility. I love the quality of the paper and toughness of the micron pen nibs, which allows me to ideate wherever I am.

Winebreather Carafe

There are two things that I love in this world: wine and good design. After binging on a few documentaries and TV series on wine, I decided that my bottle top aerator would not do! I needed to double decant some of the fantastic wines in my wine collection. Then this stunning decanter entered my life. On the rare occasions that I have found myself with wine left over, I can simply pop the lid back on for sealed storage in my fridge.

Lumio Lamp

So I am constantly curious about design, new innovative products, and technology that enhances people's lives. As Chief Executive Officer of Maga Design, Inc., I often get introduced to new products by clients, our team members, and my stylish, artistic wife. I like to curate and have on hand a multitude of different products to share with others. I love the Lumio lamp because it's multi-purpose - a lamp concealed in a book, a USB charger and decorative art piece, that when given it as a gift, it often omits a "WOW" from the recipient. This product won a red dot award in 2015, and soon you will be able to customize it.

Fidget Cube

The Fidget Cube helps to keep my mind focused by giving me something to do passively. It's like technical doodling with my fingers whilst I'm working. It's great for anyone who has a lot of energy while they're working, in meetings, or for kids who need to focus in the classroom. Definitely a cool work innovation.

Helm Boots

From the first time I saw Helm Boots, I wanted them badly. Helm Boots has a great line, and I love their commitment to the product. The company is based out of Austin, Texas. The Lee Lows are my favorite model because they are so different. The inventive pattern uses new materials that depart from the classic leather shoe.

Hustle Weekly Planner

I take pride in being a successful multi-tasker and the only reason I have the ability to focus on various things at one time is because of my planner. That’s why I love my Hustle Weekly Planner. I use my planner multiple times a day. It’s the next best thing to having a personal assistant. I have designated spaces in my planner to set goals professionally, financially and physically. It's awesome. Because the Hustle Weekly Planner is well organized and provided designated areas for plans, it stands out from a regular planner that you can find in a local retail chain. Having the structured areas for the vision board or top 3 weekly to-do’s helps me systemize priorities and stay on track with my tasks and ideas. It’s the best weekly planner for busy, organized and creative people.

Sharpie Art Workshop

I love drawing and lettering. In this book, Timothy Goodman talks about marks and works done with an everyday item: the Sharpie.

Krewe Sunglasses

As a native Charlestonian, it's no surprise that I spend a majority of my free time on the beach. After logging some serious hours in the sun, I've acquired a broad collection of sunglasses. My favorite brand right now is Krewe du Optic- a New Orlean's-based company that hand makes both sunglasses and vision glasses. Both sharp and practical, I wear them daily to protect my eyes and complete my outfit. The classic design allows me to wear them with everything from beach casual to business.

Lean UX

This book was recommended to me because it really helps me learn UX insights and concepts that I integrate into my work. The book helps you to put yourself in certain scenarios, instead of telling you what you should do as a UX designer. It's not dry at all, and l refer back to it for work.

Vive Headset

While VR may be a novelty at this point, for the enthusiasts this is a great product to explore what VR is capable of. Especially if you want to be at the forefront of the VR technology, this investment is crucial.

Copic Markers

I'm extremely concerned with quality, and the Copic markers are the best. They come in so many colors and are refillable, which is awesome. They're a juxtaposition between refinement and the ability to do something crazy."

Sous Vide Precision Cooker

I've been a fan of experimenting with different appliances to make creative and flavorful dishes, which is why I like the Anova Precision Cooker. The sous vide machine makes cooking simple; set the temperature you want, put the food in a bag, drop it in the water bath and let it cook. A heating element and a water circulator cooks the food at a constant temperature for a pre-set amount of time. It removes the guesswork out of cooking meats evenly. It even has an accompanying app that provides instructions and recipes. All you have to do is set and forget, and you get perfectly cooked food every time.

Hero Blazer

Technical apparel is my thing, and I really like Kit and Ace right now. And it’s just machine washable cashmere blends, they’re really soft and nice. Their aesthetic is made to look like you can wear it to work, but its incredibly comfortable. It’s sharp stuff. I have a jacket that is half bomber half blazer and they always have a version of it every Fall. I can toss it on a t-shirt and wear it to a client meeting, but it’s stretchy and soft, so it’s like wearing a hoodie.

Chief Customer Officer 2.0

CX is constantly a part of my dialogue at work, and Bliss is the founder of CX certification. She breaks it down into five strategic CX concepts. Even if you are not in a business that focuses on CX, this is a really fascinating book to anyone because CX effects everyone on a daily basis. We are the subject of it all the time, which they may not realize. The book gives practical advice and action items to create a long-term strategy to change a company. Her examples definitely made the book more relatable and easier to understand.

Bentgo All-in-One

When I’m not going out to lunch with the other Maga Design team members, I always bring my Bentgo. Design is my thing, and this has a very sleek look and is easy to transport. It allows me to pack anything I want for lunch with a cup for soup, containers for sauces, and utensils. It's functional and easy. Since I instagram my lunch every day, it’s also perfect for photo ops.

Thinking with Type

This book is an overall guide to typography, covering everything from nomenclature to complex design principles. As a typography-obsessed designer, this has been my go-to guide for at least the past five years, helping me figure out innovative and aesthetically pleasing solutions whenever I get stuck on a deliverable. This book is a definite must-have for every typography enthusiast.

Field Notes Expedition

The only thing better than Field Notes, is waterproof Field Notes! Draw in the rain, drop in a puddle, spill your coffee- no problem. Add a waterproof Sharpie to complete your adventure kit.

Bold

Caleb Sexton, Maga’s book guru, just started reading Peter H. Diamond’s Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth and Impact the World. Diamond offers a guide to being one step ahead of the future with exponential technologies, moonshot thinking, and crowd-powered tools. It’s a book that will definitely help you be a part of the vanguard.

BarkBox Dog Goodies

November 19th is my dog, Bronson’s birthday, and in true Maga Design-fashion, the office included him in the birthday festivities. They gave Bronson a subscription to Bark Box that included treats, bones and his now favorite toy, a squeaky piece of pumpkin pie (with whipped cream on top!). I recommend this as a gift for the dog-lover in your life, you can give one box or set up a monthly subscription. I can’t say enough how awesome of a gift I thought this was.

Garmin vívoactive Smart Watch

The Garmin Vivoactive is a smartwatch for the active lifestyle, with built-in GPS apps to track activities from running and cycling to skiing and swimming. It also includes a step counter and a sleek enough design that I typically wear my Vivoactive most days of the week. The watch pairs activity data with the Garmin mobile app (and optionally third-party apps like Strava) to keep a log of distances, favorite routes, and personal records. The interface is very simple (which is necessary given the small screen real estate) and the experience to start tracking an activity is seamless/intuitive. I'm also a big fan of the Vivoactive's golf app, which updates in real time with your distance to the green (I still haven't figured out how to make it improve my score, though). The Vivoactive also offers sleep tracking and Bluetooth-enabled smartphone notifications, but I tend to keep those features disabled for my sanity.

Pilot Precise V5

The pen is a tool that you don’t use as much these days. Laptops, tablets smartphones have eviscerated its need. For me, it’s important to put pen to paper. Whether I'm sketching out a detailed Spiderman drawing or a rough architectural sketch for an app, this pen makes life easier. That tangible feel experience is so important. Certain pens make you write a certain way, the same way a pair of jeans makes you walk a different way depending on the cut and fabric. It took years, but I’ve finally found a pen that I like, and it’s the Pilot Precise V5 RT.

Pandemic

This is a team game that is played against the rules of the game instead of each other. It still feels very competitive and is very hard.

Grit

I’m always a fan of books that help me see new perspectives. Authors Linda Thaler and Robin Kova, explain that aptitude precedes brilliance when it comes to achieving extraordinary highest. Although intelligence in our society is often characterized as the primary factor that determines success, it is not the core foundation according to the book G.R.I.T. By offering step-by-step guidelines on how to view the road to success, G.R.I.T. shares captivating stories that motivate and inspire anyone looking to advance in their career or develop some hardcore ambition.

Keene

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was 9 years old, picking out glasses has always been difficult. I wanted glasses that were stylish, not too feminine and not too masculine. That’s why my Warby Parker “Keene” glasses are ideal. I wear them every day and they’re great for anti-glare and help filtering out sunlight and other harsh lights. What really hooked me was Warby Parker’s customer experience. Their sales associates were very friendly and their store had a wall with all of the choices on either side. All of their glasses are unisex and they’re all the same price. Which lets you focus on picking out the style that suits you best, rather than be forced into one section, which made it a more natural shopping experience. Also Warby Parker donates a portion of their sales to their non-profit partner which help train people in third world countries to give eye exams and prescribe vision glasses; which makes them a great choice, both for their style and culture.

Data Flow

Data Flow documents the expansive scope of innovative possibilities in visualising data and information. Stellar resource book for creativity, inspiration, or a heavy coffee table accessory.
